Perhaps the best war movie ever.
Dirty Dozen is unessential (the book is terrible)- for fun war movies, have to put Where Eagles Dare in there. 36 hours with James Garner (and Sgt Schultz!) is another non-intense, but enjoyable, WWII movie.
I'd include the Guns of Navaronne, if only as a nod to Alistair MacLean for his cool novels.

Mrs. Miniver hasn't been mentioned, but then it did focus on life in Great Britain during the war rather than the war.
I also liked Empire of the Sun. It is one of my favorite Spielberg movies.
And finally, The Summer of '42. Jennifer O'Neill sure got my 12 year-old mojo working.
