Best advice I can give when you're first starting off is don't pick up everything you see. It's tempting because you can, but it really isn't worth the hassle carrying it all back to a store to sell. You'll find plenty of gold.

Pick up all of the gold you find, of course. Pick up all of the jewelry you find. It's very light and you get a ton of gold for selling it.
I recommend you get the DLC's that were released for it, they're all a blast.
It's probably my favorite game of all time. I played it for longer than I've ever played another game and never got tired of it.
