I'll be going there this Friday but I haven't been there since I was a little kid. The only place is remember over there is Gaido's (I think that was the name of it. It had a big crab on the roof).
Any places I should check out? Any good wing places would be appreciated too.
Thanks y'all.

We went to Gaido's a few weeks ago. It had been a few years since our last visit, but it wasn't very good. Maybe it was just the night we were there, but it certainly wasn't the Gaido's we remembered. The other poster has some good suggestions.

Best pizza and fettuccine alfredo on the island can be found at Mario's on 61st Street...not the one on Seawall Blvd. Rudy and Paco's is always good. The Pelican Club reopened recently with a CIA grad at the helm. I haven't been yet but the food looks amazing. Best steaks on the island can be had at The Steakhouse inside the San Luis Hotel. Make reservations if eating on a weekend. Shrimp n Stuff on Ave O for fried seafood and poboys.

Best place I had while there was Farley Girls. Definitely go there for breakfast. Their Texas style eggs benedict is scrambled eggs (instead of poached) with queso on top.
Mosquito Cafe is also really good. Long line at lunch, but I enjoyed the food.
Nothing great, but we always end up at Brick House for bar food and beer. They have interesting things like duck wings. And they have a good beer selection.
Avoid The Spot. Horrible tourist trap. Random people talk about their burger and I have no idea why.. patty kinda sucks..
For beer bars, Brews Brothers and Beerfoot.
I can't speak on finer dining, as I've never done that there, but I do hear Rudy and Paco is good.

Gorditas Mexican. Not a lot of English spoken but man it's good

Guido's has really gone downhill as of late. They had to sell the other side of the Restaurant (formerly Casey's), and they have turned into average fair for fine dining prices. There are many better seafood options on the island.
Gordita's & Shrimp & stuff are both good suggestions.
And how did I forget about Dibella's? Them and Clarys have the best atmosphere on the island. It was a common "date night" dinner for me and the wife when we lived there. I can still taste the bread
. Great suggestion!

Report back on the places you hit. Heading there in a couple of weeks for a conference.
