Nice gun OP. I'm jelly

going hog hunting?

I was gonna start a thread but I'll hijack this one. I want one for carrying in the woods that's light to shoot hogs with. I've walked up on 5+ hogs the past 3 times I've gone in the woods with only a pistol on my side. Would be nice to drop a few but have something light enough I won't get tired of packing it.

Any suggestions for around $600? I wanna save as much money on the rifle as possible to put better optics on it. TIA

S&W M&P15 Sport or Ruger AR556. They are two of the highest-quality budget AR15s you can buy. Both come with factory iron sights and are very light weight.

(didnt see this was already posted, but heres a link to one)
You could go for an inexpensive Smith and Wesson M&P15 LINK
Doesn't have every feature in the world but for what you're talking about it would work perfectly. Heard good things about them and for the price you cant really go wrong, Also weighs only 6.45 lbs.

You could also go for an AK47 underfolder which would be more low profile LINK

I'm sure if you really tried you could probably build a 300blk for cheap and just roll with iron sights until you get your optic.

I fell in love with that round when I went hog hunting in Oklahoma. I carried it around all day stalking and jumping hogs and the expansion of the round was beyond impressive. Everyone else in our group was blown away.
