There are limited funds in the pockets of students who have to pay for there education.
which is why this was voted on by the students. It is a student life facility.
Students chose to spend their money on this. It is not your job to decide what they should deem important.
And physical health is important whether you want to admit it or not.
Also, that doesn't really go with what you were replying to

We can do things to make that LSU diploma much more impressive to employers and colleagues. Improving the Rec is not something that's going to help out with that.
So what should these students be spending money their money on?

That rec center was down right god awful. It's available for everybody, undergads, grad students, and profs. Hopefully it gets expanded. It's not like academic building aren't being updated, a new chemistry building was built right as I left.

And it was voted on in a very "democrat" type of way. Using money that really has no effect on the student. What would I like to spend my parent's or "student loan that I have no understanding of what it's like to pay off" money on???? Hmmmmmm, a kick arse pool! I remember nearly pulling the trigger on a net gun when I had some extra money left over after paying tuition! I was a freaking moron just 5 years ago when I was a student
Physical health may be important, but there is a lap pool that satisfies student swimming needs already. And I don't think it's really the university's main priority to worry about the physical health. Not saying it's not important, but it's not nearly the most important.
The library is horrific, I remember sweating through my clothes in Lockett due to thermostats not working in the summer, I took history classes in desks from 1960 with the windows open to keep cool, I lived in a dorm that was so disgusting that I paid nearly a semesters worth of living expenses in fines just to move out. That's not even touching on getting quality instructors. I graduated in engineering. I had two or three GREAT professors. I would be all for paying 100k to those people (some of these people truly turned the way I approached school around and I feel I'm much more successful because of it). If we use finances properly to fix those issues and hire the right people, the university will flourish. We can tighten up the acceptance standards and those kids with the high GPA's and ACT scores will want to come to LSU, because the degree will be respected.
