He might. I can only say what I've seen so far.

I think a couple of factors are at work with his improvement.

1. The Clippers uptempo style suits him better than the Pelicans style of play.

2. He was under a lot of pressure in New Orleans as a lottery pick for a team that wasn't very good. A lot was expected of him. With L.A. hardly anything was expected of him other than to give Chris Paul a breather every now and then. So in L.A. he has played in a stress free environment on a good team where he's not expected to be a star. Maybe he just plays better when he's not under pressure. A lot of players are like that.

Completely disagree. He was an afterthought in NOLA by this season and the only pressure on him was don't get cut. No one has been expecting him to help get us to the playoffs for at least 2 seasons.

In LA he has to justify his dad bringing him there which is a ton of pressure. Also the added pressure of playing deep in the playoffs.

I'm talking about when he was first drafted. As a lottery pick he came in with high expectations.

I live here. I read the LA Times sports section every day, watch the local sports shows, etc. NOBODY in LA expected anything out of this guy. He was perceived as a bust that the Pelicans wanted to get rid of.

You could see him getting more and more comfortable with each game as the season progressed. He sucked the first few games, but now he's playing like people thought he might when he first got drafted.

Nobody in Los Angeles is hyped up for Austin Rivers. We're in shock at how he played. 'Pleasantly surprised' is a more accurate description of how we're feeling.

Bummer.

We don't need him to be a star, just a capable PG backup...maybe about 16 minutes of solid uptempo play.

One thing I've noticed about him is that he does not like to distribute the ball and is not very good at it when he does.

Same situation with us and Norris cole. We don't need him to be an All star, just fill in and be effective enough.

That pressure was on AD not Austin and once Jrue and Reke showed he had zero pressure cause he was the 7th man.

He's still that and none of that takes away from the pressure of not making his dad look stupid.

It's an aberration. He didn't transform from a 30% 3pt shooter to 45% in a week.

Just read any national story about Rivers. This isn't about your fricking friends in LA.
Thats been the main storyline on the team the 2nd half, "lol at Doc for trading for his crappy kid". That's a ton of pressure on Austin to end that storyline.

He's basically played about the same since the trade. In the playoffs, he has gotten hot for a few games.

He has been killing it in this Rockets series. Someone said its because of Houston but he played in the conference for several years, idk what it is but you can tell he is playing a lot more confident. They play a more uptempo system. I think it works great for him...and maybe he is getting help from CP3 who knows.

Yeah, I think we just got the "Monty Williams" version of Rivers.

The guard development under Monty Williams has been mediocre at best. Think about how he simply can't handle guards. Thornton was a prime example. The reason Tyreke contains to try and play hero ball and is so inconsistent is that he hasn't gotten any decent coaching.

People love to laud Monty for AD's development, yet ignore most of the other players. Hell, Pondexter struggled in NOLA, moved to the Grizzlies and almost immediately showed significant development. It isn't just bad luck. Monty can't coach guards and wings to save his life.
