Well duh. The football people know Mariota's not really that good. He shouldn't have even been a first rounder if we're being honest about his skill set and background.
Owners were scared of Winston, and understandably so. In the process of desperately looking for an alternative, they propped Mariota far higher than he should have been.
Everyone likes Mariota. When you like someone you tend to idealize them to an extent. But he can't live up to what he's being asked to do, sorry to say.

what are basing this off of besides your armchair GM abilities?
The "football people" thought he was good enough to be drafted 2nd overall and by all accounts he was highly coveted and would not have slipped past the second pick even if Tennessee didn't take him.
