RPI Question...

I'm trying to figure out why Dallas Baptist is #1.
Comparing to LSU, LSU played 71% of it games against Top 100, with 76% winning percentage, while DBU played 47%, with 62% winning percentage.
LSU played 29% of its game against Top 100+, winning all of them, while DBU has played 53% against Top 100+, winning all but 1.
Only distinguishing stat is road games - DBU has played 26 road games, winning 73%, while LSU has only played 13, winning 11.
With the new emphasis on road games (W = 1.3, L = 0.7), can this explain why DBU is RPI #1?

There are other smaller intricacies to the algorithm. Dallas Baptist won't be a national seed. LSU will.

the only logical thing i have come up with is that they have played a ton of road games

That must be it. Bad news for them is that they have 8 home games left, against an average RPI of 134.
Not really worried about them taking a Nat'l seed from LSU, just curious about this anomaly between the RPI and the rankings.

Dallas Baptist has played a lot more road games which helps RPI and also they have successfully avoided playing a lot of very bad teams (RPI 200+)
They have a high SOS but it's due to less bad teams on it than more good teams.

Not sure what the metric is exactly but 1.3 to 0.7 is stupid in my opinion. Baseball teams often have better road records than home. LSU is a good example this year and look at UGA's SEC home record...1 win.
Home field/court advantage is overrated except in basketball.

It is amazing how this school only comes into anybody's mind EVER right around this time of the year when baseball regional talk starts to ramp up.
Who are they? What conference do they play in? Do they even have any other sports?
Then in a few weeks they will go lose at a regional somewhere in Texas and we won't hear about them again til this time next year.

Baseball is their only D1 sport if I remember correctly. They've been a highly successful baseball program at every level they've been at. Up until maybe 2 years ago, they were a baseball independent. But now they're in the Missouri Valley.
Their RPI is mostly a result of playing almost their entire non conference schedule on the road and playing some decent to good teams. They are also benefitting from an abnormally good year in the MVC with Missouri St and Bradley being as good as they are.
ETA: They're typically a really well coached team and seem to have a couple top 5 round pitchers every year.

Wait, I am very confused - I thought we were DBU?

If Dallas Baptist remains in the top 3 in RPI they will likely be a national seed. But their last two weekend series will likely hurt their chances of staying that high. Dallas Baptist was substantially helped by having their 4 game home series with Massachusetts Lowell rained out earlier in the season. Their RPI is where it is because of the number of road games they have played and the fact that they have played a lot of midweek competition against top quality Texas and Oklahoma schools and avoided playing teams in the 200+ RPI range like Southern, Grambling, Alcorn St. and UNO.
