It's more of a critique of the media, the fans, and society in general.

I have no idea if Collons suspects it may be his baby. If he doesn't think so then his actions were perfectly justified. If he thinks it may be his baby then I just can't relate to his actions.

Then it makes even less sense.

People die. Every day, all day.

Anyone who allows themselves to feel the pain of strangers that you are only aware of because of the news will rapidly become scarred and jaded to the point that they don't really care at all anymore.

You can take the same exact logic of the OP with any "first world problem."

HOW DARE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT NOT GETTING THAT PROMOTION YOU WORKED FOR! THE JONESES DOWN THE STREET JUST LOST THEIR KID! WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU?!

And I realize that you are more talking about people distant from the situation caring more about the seeming irrelevant things.....but what is it you want?

The news basically being a video obituary of deaths and nothing else?

There's a lot of ifs in there.

I hate the situation all around but we really know very little about the situation other than its yet another senseless murder.
