How do you know the police haven't been trying to interview him and got stonewalled when they contacted him and/or his representatives? Perhaps they leaked it as a way to get his attention that he really needs to agree to an interview.
I know we have callous disregard for authority in this country in a lot of situations these days, but I think if the police wanted to talk to me, I'd get a lawyer, bring him or her with me and go talk. Especially if I didn't have anything to hide.

Yes it would be news to you if you cared about the NFL and particularly if your team was thinking about drafting him. You may not care when you heard the details and say "oh that's nbd" but it would definitely be news that you cared to read about.
No this is sports not TMZ.

should they not interview someone who might possibly be the father of the child she was carrying?

Try to look at this as it not being someone famous at all and you knew the girl murdered. Wouldn't you want police to follow up on any and every possible lead. Yeah it sucks for Collins that it's two days before the draft, but that's life sometimes. Are they supposed to put their investigation on hold because one of the persons of interest has a job offer in a couple days?

you know what happens when police departments don't provide to the public how they are conducting a murder investigation? you're seeing it happen right now in baltimore.

It worth reporting on for the clicks, the tweets, and the additional content the news outlets can get from it.

NFL teams are concerned so it is a story. Now, how it was reported is another matter and draws understandable scrutiny.
Got it.
Thank you.

not really. when a crime such as a pregnant mother being murdered occurs, the public wants answers and wnats to know what steps the police department is taking to find answers. when they don't get anything, they become upset. i'm not saying it would cause a riot in baton rouge, but police are expected to provide some answers. fact is, people are only upset collins name was released is because 1) they don't think he had any involvement 2) they are lsu fans 3) the draft is this week and it likely could have an effect on his status. If this was someone not famous and police made an announcement that so and so was being questioned, no one would care and call it "unprofessional" regardless of the effect it may have on that person's career.
again, it's very unfortunate for collins if he had no involvement, but blaming the cops is ridiculous. how about just blaming whoever murdered his ex-girlfriend for creating the situation that brought collins' into the whole thing. the police are just doing their jobs. people on here are blaming all the wrong people. they're also blaming espn. it's like they're shocked news outlets are reporting this. it's their job to report the news. this is news whether lsu fans find it unpleasant to hear or not.

If you lawyered-up, usually that tells me you DO have something to hide.
If I was completely innocent, I'd talk to the police whenever they wanted.

Public personality connected to a murder victim is always news.

The BRPD knew about the draft date but they could care less about it. Last week when they were addressing this matter, they could have contacted L. Collins and cleared this mess up for once and all whether it is bad or good news for him.
The NFL has a different interest now. They are placing emphasis on the following;
• Is Collins the father of the new born?
That is the million dollar question. If he is, this sh@t will hit the fan quickly.
I wish him the best.
Geaux Tigers!
