It really is crazy how popular these games are.

Apparently 30 million+ people watched the championships and thousands attended the actual competition.

This isn't some passing phase.

I know for League of Legends, they filled the Staples center in LA for the world championships (2013).

Since then, they've hosted the world championship for 2014 in South Korea (sold out a soccer stadium there).

This year, I believe they are hosting in Berlin.

Back when LoL first started, they were hosting competitions in the equivalent of hotel conference rooms. Now they are making nearly billions and selling out stadiums. It's crazy lucrative.

ETA: Even crazier....these games are free.
