SPOILERS
Don't get me wrong, it was a good show, entertaining and exciting, but overall I am left a little disappointed.
Now I know the 2nd season was rushed because it got cancelled midway and they had to basically cram 3 seasons into 1, and on that I thought they did a good job. I love history but the historical inaccuracies didn't really bother me either, it is a television show after all and not a documentary.
I guess I just wish they hadn't spent so much time on crap that was really unimportant, like Vorenus's relationship with his kids, I could honestly care less. They had an awesome story going with he and Pullo on the Avontine ( sp?) but half of it was was wasted on his kids hating him. And a ton of time was spent on Antony/Attia, Octavia/Aggripa, ect...

it's been a long time since I watched it so I don't remember much about it but since you are shitting on it I reckon it was a great series

You explained your own valid rationale for the let down shared by many but season 1 was about as good TV as you will find.

I thought Vorenus's family gave a nice window through which to see his character arc, and also showed both the hardships endured by the Roman soldier (most Roman soldiers didn't have families, for good reason, as the series shows) and also the limitations of the conservative / Stoic ideology of the senatorial party.

the show tried to show the 3 layers of society and his family was very necessary for this

I only rewatch season 1.
Season 1 was awesome fun.
Season 2 was 100% debbie downer.

I'm about 5 episodes in. Not really studying it. Just letting it play. Decent time killer.

They sure didn't spend any time on Caesar coping with having been arse-raped as a young man.

Caesar as some puppet kings butt buddy would've been a great way to start the series
