Right, he can't command anything else hence out pitch. He's a fastball pitcher

Yes he can. Stallings has one of the best changeups on the team and has used it all season long to get strike 3. It's probably filthier than his fastball.
PM and Dunn fell in love with the fastball last night. They called it every single pitch of his outing.

I would also like to add Cartwright could be a closer option, IMO.
Cartwright has struggled for a month straight now.

A RS freshman. I know he had a medical redshirt and didn't see time last year, but he should be a little more developed than most of the incoming freshman. He has great stuff. Last night, location was his biggest issue.

Really? Guessed I missed it.

Among pitchers not named Devall and Bouman
Cartwright:
3rd worst ERA
2nd worst WHIP
2nd worst BAA

If a change were to be made the obvious choices are Newman or Person
Among all pitchers:
Newman:
1st in ERA (0.00)
1st in WHIP
2nd in strikeout/walk ratio
1st in BAA
Person:
8th in ERA (3.60)
2nd in WHIP
4th in strikeout/walk ratio
2nd in BAA
It's kind of strange Person's ERA is as high as it is since people dont hit him, he has a good strike out to walk ratio, and people dont get on base against him. Probably just one of those statistical anomalies.

and every other outing. He doesn't command his changeup nearly as well as his fastball if he did he wouldn't have hitters sitting dead red on his fastball every damn time. They would keep hitters more off balance and throw the changeup early in counts if he could. He pretty much throws a fastball in every hitters count and that's why he has struggled lately

Well we just disagree.

Stallings has a lot of talent.
I do wish he would change his routine at the start of the inning. He stands there and prays and the primps his hair and his jersey and finally takes the mound. The entire time he is doing this the batter is waiting by the batter box thinking what kind of ham is this.
Closers, to me, need to have a no nonsense, give me the ball attitude that is somewhat intimidating. I think they should also work fast and not give the batters time to think much.

He doesnt have the command of a Cotton or the filthy of a Rumbelow. I'm just not confident that he will close out the game when its a close one.

How about we don't have just one guy designated as a "closer".

It seems to me that the ball is really easy to pick up out of his hand. He doesn't hide the ball at all.

He only ran 150 feet. Yeah , how easy. Could u have caught that ball? He knew what was at stake, so he went all out for it. It didn't work out. The runner would have scored whether it was a double or triple, so it doesn't matter

Stallings is being taught and hopefully will soon learn that a plus-fastball is only as good as it's location against skilled batsmen. When his location is good he's more than adequate. It was awful last night. Thankfully PM yanked him right away and the Tigers' were able to overcome his negative outing. He really needs to expedite a plus breaking pitch to augment his fastball, change-up arsenal. Not sure why he didn't try a change-up or two last night as the Aggie hitters were locked in on his fast-ball.

He doesnt call the pitches. If you mean why didnt PM or Dunn call for a changeup then i'm right there with you.
