like everything, I blame George lucas...when I was a kid, movies for all ages had murder and sex. Now in order to have a movie acceptable for children the only people that can die are a horde of weird aliens that don't speak or a horde of robots without a soul.

not to sound like an old man that thinks everything was better in my day, but they used to make movies for kids with dan aykroyd getting a ghost bj, or Indiana jones shooting people in the face during a Nepalese shootout.

now it's all dora the explorer type bullshite. this is why I hate kids, they ruined movies. I also blame x men. it used to be, why don't we get more superhero movies, yay x men, and then the nightmare of our lives began

5 spiderman movies
2 wolverine movies
4 x men movies
2 hulk movies
2 thor movies
3 iron man movies
2 captain America movies
2 avenger movies
3 batman movies
2 fantastic 4 movies
2 superman movies
guardians of the galaxy
green lantern
daredevil

with superman/batman on the way, wonder woman, another spiderman, more avengers, more deadpool, more fantastic 4, more everything, super big arse fries then everything else was sequel/prequel/remake nonsense...I want something new. yes I want star wars and batman, but I want something new more than that (ok, maybe not more than star wars)

that's just 15 years...let's look at the 15 years prior to this

4 batman movies
spawn
does dick tracy count? howard the duck?

blockbuster movies were Jurassic park and titanic. I've had enough of this superhero shite I want to go tell my 16 year old self what a fricking idiot I was because he always said "why don't they do superhero movies"

I do agree we could use some higher stakes in these films. Given that each movie is just another chapter in a continuing story, it gives the titular character narrative immunity (until the actor's contract runs out). We know Iron Man and Cap are safe in Ultron because they are already in the ads for Civil War.

They have also taken back the deaths that did occur. Nick Fury was just faking in Winter Soldier. Groot grows back in GotG. Even Agent Coulson is back on TV. People need to die, and they have to stay dead. I totally agree we need some stakes.

Also, the MCU is largely sexless. There is hardly any sex in this universe, and it could use some. OK, Tony gets it on offscreen, and there's a great line from Starlord about his ship looking like a Jackson Pollock painting under blacklight. But the only character who seems interested in sex who is not portrayed as a cad, is Captain America of all people. His relationship with Black Widow was so interesting precisely because it explored the loneliness of a guy who had been frozen for 50 years and wouldn't mind dating again. And Black Widow was wearing an arrow necklace throughout Winter Soldier, hinting at a relationship with Hawkeye, but again... off screen.

Part of the problem is the dearth of female characters. Black Widow is, right now, the only female super hero on earth in the MCU. And there's Gamora in space, but she's not all that interested in sex either.

God, Captain Marvel cannot get here soon enough. Need to break up the sausage fest.

There are usually 175-200 movies released to theaters every year. Usually you get about 4-5 Comic book movies. (And that seems to be the run rate from now on outside of 2018 which I think will hit 7.)

You're looking at about 2-3% of all films are Comic Book movies.

It really isn't that many.

We've had Fast 7, and have Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Hunger Games, annual Pixar film, Mad Max, Entourage, Terminator, Mission Impossible, Pan, Spectre, Hateful Eight, and a few others.

Think about that, in one year you get a Jurassic Park film, A Star Wars Film, A Terminator Film, a Mad Max, film, and a Mission Impossible film. One year.
