It's obviously a religious figure like Jesus or Muhammad. But taking them out of the equation, it has to be Johannes Gutenberg. He invented the movable type printing press which has impacted history more than anything else. It was critical for the spread of knowledge since it allowed information to be widely transmitted to the masses through print. The printing press changed everything because there's no way the Renaissance, Protestant Reformation and Scientific Age would have developed the way it did through word of mouth.

He is only credited with inventing it because he printed Bibles, the Asians were doing the same thing hundreds of years before according to many.
