If it happens and the regulations are anything like Washington State you will have to grow indoors to limit the environmental factors (bugs, fungus, etc.) that can affect the product.

I worked for a guy in Seattle that had an indoor facility and his first crop had some kind of fungus that made it not eligible for smoking so it had to be converted to oil. He still made some money but not the expected profit had it been smoke-able.

FTR I'm not an expert on marijuana nor did I have anything to do with the growth and production. I just helped get the facility built. It was not cheap. The lights alone cost several hundred thousand dollars and the HVAC system was also very pricey. You will need more than just dirt and a few good ole boys that can grow to pull it off successfully.

Oh yea he also spent a fortune on access control and security and hired Bill Gates former head of security to manage it as well as the transportation of product and profits.

If it is widespread legal, not just medical weed and legal in one state with restrictions, but actually as legal as tobacco, then it will not be grown indoors. It would be too expensive. You can spray pesticides and fungicides. If you're only doing a 2 acre section, yeah you can probably throw a building over it. But if you have a weed farm the size of a tobacco farm, it's easier to deal with the other stuff than to try an put it all in a building. Although, if there is an age limit, then there may be an issue with accessibility.

Yeah, it can be a major operation.

This is why big tobacco has already bought up so many patents around marijuana production. They are going to dominate once its fully legal.

My sister lives in Oregon and they grow a few personal plants in their vegetable garden. She's an architect and her husband is a biology professor, so they aren't some useless hippies. The personal grow stuff isn't super potent, but its free and pretty neat to walk outside and cultivate your own weed as your cultivate cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. as well.

They have a monthly neighborhood party at someone's house and they routinely bring their fresh herb and a bottle of wine for the host.

People in the South need to realize its not the Devil's Lettuce. Its just a fricking plant that isn't addictive, isn't lethal, and isn't really bad for you.
