Just finished Daredevil, very good. Got me thinking.

If the Avengers are the Varsity, then you have characters like Daredevil, Coulsons crew, soon to be the other Netfilx heroes, call them the JV. Could Spidey be a character that Marvel could give both big screen and smal screen time to?

A lot of what Spidey does is the small scale stuff. Catching bank robbers, saving women from muggings. If Marvel is going to bring a 15 year old Peter Parker into the fold, giving him some small screen time could be beneficial. Its going to be hard to see a kid standing with Hulk, Cap, Stark, and Thor.

I love that Marvel is bringing in other heroes and making them interesting. Last thing I'd want to see is have Captain America in every feature like Wolverine in X-Men (although I love Jackman's portrayal of him and its going to be hard to see them invetably kill him off. No spoilers there, I just assume they'll do that rather than recast it.) But I think Spiderman would be an awesome hero to throw on the small screen, interact with some of the other small screen MCU characters, and then get called up for an Avengers arch when needed. Now, I now that'll probably never happen, as Spiderman movies are going to make a bilion dollars. But I think theres a story there that would do great without having to get condensed into a 2.5 hour movie.

I'd like to Marvel put him in both the Netflix series and the big screen stuff, connective tissue if you will, much like other key players in Marvel 616.

Doesn't Sony still technically owns the rights to Spider-Man? I know that Sony and Marvel came to an agreement that Marvel could start using Spider-Man in their movies, but I think it might chap Sony a bit if Marvel started throwing him on tv shows.

As far as his character goes, he's always gravitated more towards the Avengers or Fantastic Four worlds.

As far as his powers, he is stronger than Capt America, quicker than most anyone, has high intelligence, and has an impressive catalogue of villains. No, he shouldn't be able to beat up Thor or Hulk, but he's on the level with Capt America or Iron Man, and most XMen. A lot of it depends on how he is written--whether the writer stresses his youth or whether he is portrayed more as a wise-cracking but otherwise mature young man in his early 20s.

As long as the story doesn't linger on uncle Ben and his origins, I'd love to see him in movies or in his own show.

I could see the Punisher making a few episodes in the Netflix DD series.

They have some common enemies, and would make for some decent confrontation.

Spiderman really follows the Batman dynamic in that he mostly plays in his own world and has a very large rogues gallery. His arch nemesis have gone on to be major Marvel antagonist also. He also plays a lot in the bigger names. Has multiple story lines with avengers, F4, X-men, etc.

He is still marvels biggest star in the comic world even with the recent mishandling of the newer movies (damn you Sony). Done right he could have a Batman like resurgence similar to the Nolan trilogy.

Too much potential for big screen market to waste on the small screen. The first three spiderman movies still holds numerous box office records. So as much as I would enjoy a series I can't see it happening.

Spiderman's rogue's gallery is only second to Batman, would make a great tv show. The animated show from the 90's was superb and one fo the only non-anime shows around at the time which wasn't afraid to depict violence and dark subject matter (laser guns aside)

Popularity-wise, Spider-man has been up there as probably the most iconic Marvel character. He's certainly been up there with and probably above characters like Hulk and Wolverine.

Power level, he's about a 10-20 ton strength level. Above most "peak human" heroes like Daredevil, Hawkeye, Black Widow, even Captain America. Well below power houses like Hulk, Thing, etc. So although in some ways he's a "street level" hero, he has the strength and the gravitas to mix it up with the big teams.

Bonus for you guys - First time Spidey thought about joining the Avengers was way back in the silver age (I think it was Annual #2 or Giant Size Spiderman):

In the usual meeting/misunderstanding, Spidey pretty much tossed around Cap and Goliath if I remember right before things were calmed down.

He ended up not joining - his "test" was to bring in the Hulk. And he was able to taunt him and lead him towards the Avengers easily. But in one of those sitcom kind of mistaken meaning situations, Spidey felt bad for the Hulk and thought the Avengers would hurt him so he told them he couldn't even find the Hulk and took off. Of course the Avengers in reality wanted to "help" the Hulk.

I like the role they have planned for him as described. I feel like he should be an added attraction, not a mainstay as far as interacting with the core Avengers.
