My first major incident under my watch as a supervisor.

And I'm just thankful that the only injury was a minor burn. shite gets pretty scary when a ladle(think big metal bucket) holding 15,000 pounds of molten steel, hovering 15 feet above the plant floor and shooting molten metal out at an angle like a fire truck water hose. Standing there helpless as one of my younger guys panics as he tries to get control of the situation, but even then he's standing on a 10 foot railed ladder over looking a 20 foot deep pit.
Definitely one of the most helpless moments of my life and one that made me come straight home and kiss my ole lady and hold my kids as tight as I possibly can.
Life is short guys. And it can end in a moments notice. Tell your family you love them, you never know when your time is up.

What did the kid try to do to get control?
Posted on 4/14/15 at 6:06 am to 7thWardTiger
now the question is, will he pass a drug test?

he should have rolled the ladle back up to an upright position so that the stream of metal could go into the furnace. What he did was continue to roll it horizontally, causing the stream to come out farther and farther, burning up wires, a platform gearbox, and other equipment. He panicked. Not that I can blame him. But it is what it is.

Prolly just pee'd on it.
I'm still not clear what the problem was there.

He already did. Passed with no problem. I hope they don't fire him. He's one of the guys that I don't have to tell twice to do something. Idk what they will do. Depends on just how much property damage and downtime I fuess

Well first of all don't fuess that's the worst thing you could do at a moment like this.
Seriously though, glad everyone is ok. You work in Longview,TX? Know a few folks that work in a similar type facility up there.

I am sure your company you work for appreciates this being posted on the OT. I am sure the HR department is happy to see this in detail. : casty:
