The reality is that for Newman, next year is his only year in college. While he may not admit it, next season is nothing more than a NBA audition. That being the case, there are pros and cons at each potential college.
UK:
Pros - Arguably the best college program in the nation right now (Duke may disagree). There he will play early and often with several other NBA prospects. He will also get a ton of national exposure because, well, it's Kentucky. They're a huge TV broadcast draw
Cons - Likely wouldn't be the first or even second option at PG if that is most important thing to him. Also, he like wouldn't be the "headliner" at UK. They'll have several of those. He could get lost in the shuffle a bit.
LSU:
Pros - Better chance at playing more minutes at PG. Though not as much as UK, because of Simmons LSU is going to get much more national exposure than in the past. Relatively short drive for his family from Jackson (2.5 hours) compared to UK. Should be a good mix of vets and freshman, plus LSU's star is a very unselfish player. Finally, Jones runs a very offense-friendly system. Though it may not be very efficient, guys are allowed plenty of opportunities to make plays.
Cons - LSU will have two veteran and capable PGs on the roster who may be better suited for making the team as a whole better. Newman is still a volume scorer. Would he be willing to decrease his ppg for the betterment of the team? Plus, Quarterman might be an emerging NBA prospect. He had 1 and should have had 2 triple-doubles last season (his teammates let him down vs. NC State). TQ was the "glue" on this year's team. It would be hard not to allow him to be the primary ball-handler next season. Also, Newman won't be the most highly touted player at LSU no matter how well he plays, Simmons will. Finally, IMO Blakeney has been very impressive. He may be better for LSU than Newman would be.
MSU
Pros - Close to home. Will without question be "the man" for their team, and he will play whatever position he wants. Howland has a much better coaching resume than at least Jones.
Cons - There's not much else around him at MSU. They have a few good SEC players, but not nearly as many as UK and LSU. Even with Newman, State is not going to get a ton of TV exposure. And while they should be a much better team, it's still unlikely that they make the NCAAT next season
If his individual performance and numbers are the ONLY things that are important, then MSU might be the best place for him. If he wants national exposure on a good team that will be in the spotlight, then UK and (maybe to a lesser extent) LSU provide that
