I hear ya. I do think GoT is they best show on TV currently all things considered including the epic production quality but honestly the juggling of so many character arcs in the books was a let-down at times. For instance, I had almost zero interest in Brienne's arc. I think the liberties that the TV writers have taken has actually made the TV series better than the books to some extent.

Having said that, I think that pound for pound the writers and production team of Vikings has actually done a better job with what they had to work with. And while Vikings also has multiple main characters, I prefer it's more focused approach on a more limited number of settings allowing characters associated with those settings to be developed more fully.
