I wouldn't call going 0-4 in the only AAA game he played
in as drowning. He didn't hit very well in spring training.
I think the reason they called him up instead of some others is that he is more ready for the big stage and they aren't worried about him losing confidence.
He was such a fan favorite at LSU there was a perception for much of his career that he was better than he actually was. This pressure has crushed many a fan favorite at LSU, but in his case he kept on improving and became that great player, showing improvement every year.
