If the Braves had no interest in keeping Heyward, then the trade makes perfect sense. However, I think the Braves should have kept Freeman, Simmons, Heyward, Wood, and Teheran and dump everyone else.

It's not that they didn't have interest. It's that they realized he wasn't gonna be worth the $20 million/year that the market will likely grant him. They can't afford to be handcuffed like that anymore. And while he's not Uggla or BJ bad, he's nowhere near worth what he'll get on the market. Unless he has a monster year, and even then, I'd be hesitant to pay him based on one year, a contract year at that.

How long should we sit around waiting on Heyward to live up to the Hype. It's not happening. He will probably hit about .260 with 100 strikeouts this year. There are plenty of people who can do that without forking over a major contract.
