Land folks. Equip / NRCS program

Anybody ever had projects that went through this program? We have a pond that needs working (levee and dug out) and pasture that under the program is to be planted in legumes.
Basically, they come out and access the livestock pond and plan how to fix it. They pay a little ( up to 1500 cubic yards of dirt moved I think) and they evaluate your soil sample results and you plant broad leaf legumes (clover) to help with bringing souls back and it's partially funded.
Anyway, just curious if anybody has experience with this

I've gotten curt share money through equip before for reforestation in Texas. Simple process and easy to get funded. Your local office will provide with the requirements, but you can pretty much tell them what you're going to do and they'll sign off on it. Same with amending the prescription. One thing to keep in mind is that you won't receive cost share dollars until after the project is complete (on the timber side anyway).

Yea I'm 3/4 way through the process. I don't really have the money to re-do a pond but hoping this will pay for the majority. It's an existing pond and we are gonna expand and use the dirt to build up the levee.
I've heard so many horror stories with CRP and I was curious about others experiences with this program

By going thru those programs, it can tie up land for up to 20 years. I wouldn't want anything to do with the government tying up my land.

I work for NRCS as a district conservationist. Before I get any hate, it's a good job, pays the bills, I get to work with farmers on a daily basis, and yes I pay taxes. Anyway, CRP is a farm service agency program and is pretty much dead. EQIP is a NRCS and is very much alive. Depending on your situation the program should pay about 50% of your cost. What parish are you in?

Do it all the time, they NRCS cost shares on development projects that we're doing on lands I manage.
If you take the cost share money, you usually have to agree to leave it for the purpose spent for, in your case, pond building and pasture. IF you change your mind and do away with the pond or rip up the pasture for crops or timber you MIGHT have to repay the money or a portion of it, depending on the timeframe.

You need to make sure you stay up to date on the status of your app/contract. Bug your DC to death to make sure you get the service you should be getting.

Hunting guy is right. When you take the cost share money, you are agreeing to maintain that practice for its lifespan. Pasture planting lifespan is 10 years.

Fish I think it depends on the program you enroll in.

CRP and EQIP are to totally different programs with totally different goals. CRP is very much alive

YEa this will def stay as pasture and the pond will always be there. it use to hold some nice fish ( have one on the wall that was 8#). Last few summers its almost completely dried up.
Not real sure why we are worried about the planting of the pasture portion of it. For 8 years these fields have been grazed and well taken care of as far as limed and fertilized. Family didn't ask my thoughts on this part

EQIP and CRP are completely different programs. I didn't mean that CRP doesn't exist. CRP just has not been active in any of the offices I've worked in.
