Being nicer doesnt mean anything imo. Youre still living away from your own place for a month. Sorry but I have a life also and then I have to mow this frickers lawn and take care of his animals while my house chores pile up an hour away.

A grand is getting off easy. If its just the pets, OP can hire a service to come feed them. And a lawn service to mow.

Asking a friend to do this is kind of shitty

Good thing I'm not asking a friend then, huh?

My wife's cousin caught wind of our little dilemma and offered to help.

Agreed. The fact his house is bigger or better means nothing. If I had to watch a house for a month, with animals and it was 1 hour from my house, I'd be pissed. A few hundred dollars would be an insult.

I wasn't arguing with you, just stating what my thought process would be if I was in the cousin's position.
