My cousin did a huge U.S. road trip over one summer. He and a few buddies started in NOLA and headed to L.A, then turned north up to Seattle. After reaching Seattle, they drove east to Wisconsin and then back down to NOLA.
He told me it was a blast. They hit up 5 or 6 different MLB stadiums and did Vegas for a night or two among other stops along the way.

I took a motorcycle trip out west a few years back, and it was life changing. Went by myself. 13 days and 6500 miles and camped out in a tent almost every night. La, Amarillo, Taos NM, Durango, Moab UT, Escalante UT, Las Vegas, San Luis Opisbo CA, San Fran, Ft. Bragg, Snake River, Lolo Pass, Yellowstone, Denver, Salada CO, and back home. Being alone on the road was great.
I went on a smaller trip the next year with a buddy, and it wasn't nearly as good as going it alone.
