What kind of dead animal did I find in the river today? (Pics in op)

Skull looks like a nutria, however the body is puzzling. The 'crab' looking thing under the stick were bones attached to what looked like vertebra attached to the body...

Looks like a beaver to me. Maybe a nutria.

I was thinking beaver at first but what is the crab thing?!? Cause let me tell you it looked freaky in person.

Rib cage. Looks like the hide has just sorta separated over time, but is still stuck on at the tail. Just my guess, I'd have to poke it with a stick to be sure.

Could be. I did poke the crab with a stick to see if it was alive.

You need to get a polarized lens if you're planning on taking more pictures of dead animals in the river.

Beaver's tail doesn't have those bones in it from what I can tell looking at other skeletons.
