I don't think the direction facing would decided their fate. They would just see it coming this way.

they are the "safest seats in the car" according to Elon Musk.
they add in an extra frame and everything for those seats.
Also the Model S has recorded some of, if not the best ever crash test results.

Just to hit on this again: the rear facing seats attach to a second (separate) frame that augments the standard bumper for increased safety.
