We have two dogs, and its a process for lack of a better word. I walk them before heading to the gym at about 530, wife takes them out a few times during the day, and then I walk them when I get home from work and again before I go to bed. I think the key is to have them on a consistent schedule and reward and praise them when they "go" outside. Mistakes are sometimes made but not often and I don't rub their noses in it. We don't kennel them.

No you're not. Dogs can ruin a house...speaking from experience. As long as he has a nice home to go to and your GF can still see him, I wouldn't worry about it.

You are wrong in the eyes of God, so yeah I'd say you're pretty fricking wrong.

Me? I'm pretty sure he housebroke himself during the year he spent at the vet after she saved him as a stray. He stays downstairs while I'm not home so no carpet for him to mess up. He's an older dog. The training we are working on is walking on a leash as a grown up.

Thanks! He's no Calvin, but he's trying so hard to be good.

Op, you should talk to your office about the dog leaving. Usually pet rent is more for 2, make sure they remove 1 dog to save you $

Am I an ahole for making her (in a way) get rid of her dog?

Not at all. If she can't be bothered to train him properly then she doesn't deserve the responsibility of having a dog.

If she can't train a dog, how is she going to be able to raise your children?

Time to move on.

Awesome. Thanks for all the responses. Actually a while back I told her she failed the dog by not properly training him when she got him........yeah, that didn't go well but I know I'm right.haha Also, I agree that the fact he is going to a place he enjoys and she will be able to see him when we visit makes it a better decision. Alright, thanks again everyone!

No, it is just a dumb dog and you do not want your house to smell like piss.

Your gf sounds lazy. She just didn't want to deal with trying to crate train her dog.

So that's how she deals with problems? Instead of working hard to make a solution work...she just pawns them off to her parents??

Don't worry about it. She'll make you get rid of far more shite during your relationship.
