That's what the Dr said.
I do know that once they cut carbs and eat healthier, they will drop like 50 pounds in 2 or so months.

I don't think it's a disability.
I do think eating compulsion in some cases is an addiction.
I have a friend who got a lap band. But his compulsion to eat is so strong that he figured out that if he drank large quantities of water while he ate, he could get the food through the band. He is otherwise a great person. He works hard, is pretty successful professionaly and is a good husband and father.
There has to be Psycological component that makes a person do things they know are harmful to them. As a former smoker, I can relate to this.
Also, it seems that in a lot of cases, if your parents are obese, you have a larger chance of being obese. Most of my thin friends and acquaintances have thin parents. There are exceptions of course, but it does bare out that either genetics or behavioral conditioning or both contribute to obesity.
It's not as simple as fat people are lazy.
Most in this thread are correct about the solution... Eat less and healthier, excersize more. That isn't in quesion.

BMI

a
guideline
quite being obtuse

Call it what you want, but I eat healthy and get a reasonable amount of exercise and I have a hrd time shedding weight. I call it slow metabolism , but really have no clue as to why. Oh well it's who I am and I'm ok with it so to sum up

in order for 55,000 calories a day to be at maintenance, a 25 year year old male at 6'2 would have to weigh about 8700 pounds
do you see how that is impossible?

you would be defying the laws of thermodynamics otherwise

I know precisely why I have trouble losing weight, I just felt like being an arse
Posted on 4/1/15 at 1:10 pm to thesoccerfanjax
In the poor villages? Ya right, show me a pic. Nobody can be fat if they don't take in enough calories. Do you think there are other kids in this kids village that will be fat eating as much as he does?

The problem arises in the flimsy math used here.
The people who say this are really making a statement that is similar to an physical laborer paid by the hour saying "I scoop a healthy amount of dirt out of the hole on the shovel and I do this for a reasonable number of minutes per hour, but I am having a hard time digging this hole"
Most bosses would fire said worker for not working hard enough, or diligently enough.
Hearing patients tell me "I don't know, I do everything right, and still cant lose weight" is just failure to recognize their own inadequacies to satisfy the simple law of conservation of mass and energy.

There is more to weight loss and weight gain than just calories in and energy spent.

Is it considered normal for BMI purposes? yes
Right, but this is circular reasoning. If I weighed 129 pounds I would be far from 'normal'

good?
for what?
That's a good point in a weird sort of way.

Fat people are not able to do shite that the normal person can. Therefore, they are disabled. So yes, being fat is a disability.

With the exception of physically cutting away tissue instead of expending energy, no, no there is not.
If you feel strongly about it, please elaborate.

This makes me sick. I am obese on paper but don't feel like I am. I don't feel like it's anyone's responsibility to make me more comfortable. It's my own. I work out and attend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practices. Get off your lazy arse and do something. If you can't run, walk, if you can't walk, hobble. Use a damn hand-bike, anything.
I also used to work with a morbidly obese woman and she acknowledged her weight. She never wanted any special accomodations except a little extra room because she's "grande".
Definitely NOT a disability.

All other things being equal, a heavier person is more at risk for disease than a lighter person. That's the purpose of BMI - to attempt to measure how at risk a person is to disease.
