If you knew my heart you'd probably think I was crazy. That's another story for another day..

Why would you take your kids to church if you don't believe in the teachings? to raise fakers as well?
Seems like a waste of a few hours every week.
I think as an Atheist, it's a lot of curiosity. I like to hear the sermons and read the verses.
I feel that to truly lose faith, you have to understand what faith is, and the principles of it.

The secular side of parochial schools is superior to many, many public systems.
No doubt. I was referring to genro taking his kids to church. Don't see why you wouldn't just teach them how to be moral outside of church. I used to hate going to church as a kid.

So you would kill your Child for God?
How is that better than selling your soul to the Devil?

I really don't know why people are comfortable with the story of Abraham taking Issac up to a mount and trying to murder him based simply on a whim from God.
The belief that God killed thousands of Egyptian children because one stubborn man wouldn't release the Hebrews is far more troubling to me. Or when God personally sent a bear to maul children to death for picking on an old man. Or allow the majority of humans who will ever live to be punished forever in Hell because a woman couldn't follow directions.

I was raised in a strict southern baptist home. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I'm not opposed to going to church out of curiosity. It's kind of fun to be an outside observer. My moms been going to Jimmy Swaggart, and I'm really looking forward to when I'll have the chance to go check it out
The last time I went on my own was to see my buddy play in the rock band. He is an atheist and it was pretty funny seeing him get his frickin praise on for a few hundred bucks on a sunday.
He said the behind the scenes is really good, too.. A bunch of dudes with sound and stage equipment, perfectly coordinating when to soften the lights, when to make that chime noise, to get the congregation to lift their hearts, and open their wallets, to God. It is very choreographed.

Agreed
I find nonbelievers who can't defend their position well to be worse than those who blindly believe. To ignorantly pick the option that says your consciousness ends when you die over the one that promises eternal life is stupid. You better know you're right if you are gonna turn down the latter.

Well, answer the question: If God commanded you to kill your child, would you do it?

I believe that was a "Yes"

While my faith is strong, I would not. I would believe that it was Satan and not truly of God. Which makes the story of Abrahams faith extremely powerful to me. He was given a command from God to test his faith and his faith was made even stronger through his obedience. I would fail that test but I do know that I would also be forgiven. We are tested all the time with far less then sacrificing our loved ones yet still fail very often. Yet, we are forgiven if our faith remains strong through our failures. In a way, many people do sacrifice their children for love or lust of material things, drugs, etc.. The story of Abraham is an extreme case of faith testing including in scripture to demonstrate to later generations the pinnacle of faith and obedience. If Abraham could be faithful in such an extreme example....certainly we have the ability to pass through lesser tests that we all face on a regular basis.

That's not the question. You're 100% convinced that you are talking to God and not Satan. Do you kill your child?

I've heard this bullshite before. Stop beating around the bush and actually answer the question.

I did answer. I said that I would fail that test. I am also 100% certain I would be forgiven.

you really think some other entity is purposefully setting off events as as test?

is simply that - a story, not a historical recod

Well, as I was taught in bible school, confusing God with Satan is called blasphemy, and is the only unforgivable sin.

Then your family is actually first in your life. This is a good thing.

For some, religion is a block to a Spiritual experience, for others, it seems to work. What I mean by a block, is some of them would like you to believe what they believe, never question, and for goodness sake don't go inward and have your own experience with God. Some use fear to keep people coming back, the old punishing god trick.

Not a week ago, I woke up in the middle of the night and prayed asking God to use my son when he grows up to be an example of faith and someone standing their ground.
Something along the lines of him being in a "denounce Jesus or die" situation and very publicly refusing to deny Jesus.
