guy who did it last time did it with a regular square battery from a flashlight. Like I said, I can kick myself for not paying closer attention.

Maybe you could. It's a common problem with generators that aren't run often.

They rely on the residual magnetism in the windings to get going. All you have to do is get some current through the windings to develop some magnetic field before starting up.

I've been drinking for a while and I don't want to tell you something that's going to smoke your generator. If nobody answers tomorrow I'll tell you how to do it.
