Between work and going to NewO and places to see friends I dont plan on being there much. When I am there I do plan on fishing.

What are the "bad areas" to avoid? Have been leaning towards Thib bc Houma has always struck me as a place I am happy to not be from .

There aren't all that many "bad areas" per se, just some places you probably don't want to live. The east side really is getting bad. Not as in ghetto bad, but down the bayou trashy bad. There are a few places that are still okay there, but they are fading fast.

If you live on the west side, around hwy 311/St. Charles area, you're not going to think it's bad. Only problem is housing is a little outrageous in that area (although it may be dropping soon).

One of the main reasons Houma can be so shitty is that all of the little bayou town funnel into Houma for their shopping/work/etc.. Thibodaux seems nicer, but that's because no one from outside of Thibodaux needs to go there. If you need to go to a store, you are going to the same stores in Houma with the trashy people. If you live in the nice areas of Houma, it's damn near the same as Thibodaux. I've got family that live in both.

I just moved from the area to Texas and hope to never have to move back any where close if that makes any difference

Another option I thought of when I moved down there after college was to buy an old sportfisher and live in it, or just buy a fishing camp down one of the bayous. There's not a lot to do in town, so why not take advantage of the awesome things the area does have to offer. You can be 25 minutes from work and live in some of the best marsh fishing in the area/country. Getting engaged put a stop to those ideas with a quickness.
