I don't think Chavis wanted to leave but that clause was the dealbreaker. If he wanted to leave he would have left before bowl practices would have started.
Maybe Alleva wanted him to leave?
LSU assistants are paid a lot of money and it's not like LSU hasn't renewed most of them as long as the production is there.

He knew he leaving, but he wasn't going to leave until the time when he didn't have to pay the buyout. He was a lame duck
