I'd suggest doing speed work once a week

not only because it will help your endurance greatly, but it is a nice change of pace from the same old run and tempo you usually run

100 yards...1/4 mile...whatever distance sprints till you die

I don't know what training program you are doing, but most legit training programs recommend 3 different types of runs per week

tempo
speed
long

sounds like you are just doing tempo, which isn't exactly an efficient training program
