Same problem here. If there are simply some low spots in the yard that collect water and require filling, what is best material for filling? River Silt or sand? or something else?

Go get some bags of play sand from wal mart. Grass will begin to grow over it.

I do have a few spots in the front that I was going to level but they are small enough I can do those with a wheelbarrow. I am just going to use topsoil for that but again we are not talking a large area.

Now my backyard is a different story.

If it is not a huge hole go pick up a pallet or so of topsoil from home depot. It is around a dollar a bag and most importantly it is weed free. For small jobs do not have dirt hauled in without knowing if it is weed or termite infested.

for large jobs you really have no choice
