Guess you passed that one???

Obviously. It was easy. The rest of the peons out there would probably find it tough.

so, this whole "matching" thing is a coordinated effort among all medical schools and all hospitals who are taking residents?....if so, I am impressed with whoever coordinates all of that...

What does one patient who got shitty treatment have to do with how comfortable non-ER docs are with the low-acuity patients who roll through the ER? I never said they were just as good or a perfect replacement. But to want to work in an ER, and even to do a good job in the ER, there are other paths to doing so than an ER residency.
ETA: you're pulling a typical Poli Talk where you get offended over things you half read or didn't understand. I never spoke as an expert. Nor did I say half of what you're finding offensive.

Houma
You laugh, but it worked out extremely well when Houma cardiologist Dr Craig Walker recruited a young CV surgeon out of West Virginia named Dr David Allie, and together they founded Cardiovascular Institute of the South.
Which grew to only 500 employees.

Scruffy doesn't pretend to understand how it all works. He has a basic idea, but its complicated.

This is probably the best/most well thought out attempt at an explanation written at the level that most anyone could understand that I've seen, in case anyone wants a detailed "basic idea" behind it.

honestly, I am really suprised that people would leave this in the hands of something as analytical as a computer...people typically want the ability to slant things a bit when it suits them....

It prevents a residency program from being able to give an offer with a deadline and pressure someone into accepting before interviewing/hearing from elsewhere. And things like that.

The one thing I wish they still had for us IMGs is us getting to bypass the match. I think this match or the last one where we we couldn't do the accept during the interview deal. I was kind of looking forward to that honestly

There are stories about people being offered spots outside the match even this year. I'm sure it happens, but it never happened to me, and I don't know anyone who personally went that route. It's a violation of the terms of the March (or maybe NRMP?) by both the applicant and the program to do such a thing, as i understand it.

Yea, it's a violation of match terms. Not sure what happens if you get caught though.

Can't they just both mutually agree to rank each other first? That should be legal enough.

That is just as illegal according to NRMP.
