Which school is the real University of Louisiana? | The Vermilion

"UL Lafayette attempted to officially become the University of Louisiana in 1984, but this attempt only lasted for a few weeks before being overturned by the state legislature. Officially, only one university has been the University of Louisiana, Tulane University.
In 1847, the state legislature established the University of Louisiana, now Tulane, as a public university. After the Civil War, the University of Louisiana went through a period of financial hardship. Businessman Paul Tulane donated real estate and funding to support the university. He established the Tulane Educational Fund (TEF).
In 1884, the Louisiana State Legislature transferred control of the University of Louisiana to the TEF. This move renamed the school the Tulane University of Louisiana and the university became privatized. Tulane is one of only a few to change from a public state-funded university to a private institution.
This move over 100 years ago has never been altered or changed so ultimately UL Lafayette and ULM should be turning their attention to Tulane, because Tulane is the ‘real’ University of Louisiana."

The Vermilion is a hack newspaper that only tries to troll its audience.

Compromise: change Tulane back to The University of Louisiana and ull back to the Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Liberal and Technical Learning. Everything would be right in the world.

Thanks for your interest in our student newspaper. I'm a student here and have no idea what's in the Vermillion

Get it right.
It is the University of LSU A&M BR, LA, Esquire.

I wish ULM would wear Louisiana on their jerseys to confuse everyone even more.

That doesn't sound canonical though.

ULM doesn't have to. ULM is not trying to be something (a flagship university) that they are not. ULL is trying to overcompensate, but it really just draws more attention to the fact they are a mid major directional school (nothing wrong with that).

From the article:
quote:
UL Lafayette is the largest school of the University of Louisiana System and considered a national school; ULM is considered a regional school.

Is this article from The Onion? Because it sounds like it belongs there.

Our state is broke, entitlements greatly exceed revenue, we're issuing tobacco bonds for longer periods than the revenue will last and trying to use that as permanent funding, the budget relies on a commodity that is volatile, we tried to elect an 80 year old criminal as a politician again, etc etc etc
And ya'll want to argue over who is the "University of Louisiana"
I'd be ashamed to claim the University of Louisiana at this point

Supposedly the author of this article has been fired.
I think it's funny, the Vermilion is trying to make it out like it was an opinion piece, but it was very much an article by a staff writer, which wasn't filed under their opinion header.

true

haha. If you ask anyone outside of Louisiana who the University of Louisiana is they are either going to think LSU or the school from The Waterboy.

ULM is considered a regional school.
True and so is UL-L.
If anything LaTech should be the flagship of the UL system. It is atleast a Tier1 school, it is older than UL-L, and is in a more respected athletic conference.
