I rarely throw in my two-cents-worth because the OT is no place for science debates, but couldn't let this pass. Regardless of the causal agent, changes in climate, which includes increased mean temperature, altered precipitation (amounts, seasonality, regional distribution, form), sea level rise, glacier persistence, sea ice cover, etc. are clearly serious environmental concerns. Litter is really just an aesthetic issue (unless you are talking about large scale issues like the north Pacific gyre). AL Gore understands the difference. The issue with "taking money away from coastal erosion" is actually a debate about how federal dollars from public resources (i.e., offshore oil and gas) should be allocated.

Funny how many OTers think they know more than climate scientists.

You mean those climate scientists that sent emails to each other about changing the numbers to show a warmer climate? The fake picture they sent out of the polar bear on the small iceberg? Maybe Al Gore flying his jet from one of his houses to another all the while screaming that the sky is falling? etc.?

In the '50s, '60s, & '70s they were preaching global cooling. My second grade teacher told us an ice age was coming and I couldn't sleep for a week. Fugg all of 'em.

If one is on the fence on this issue just think about this. Do you really want to be on the same side as the guy who got in a demon fight at Walmart?

I'm in the camp that the climate is changing. It always has been. I just don't know if the changes in our relatively very small sample of data can be used as facts. Especially to blame on man. I honestly believe we don't know enough to blame it on man or not, so it irks me when people are dead set on the agenda. And when someone can find any way to make the evidence support their stance, its not even worth paying attention to.

This. I've always thought it was pretty established that the climate changes - all that ice age and inter-glacial periods and stuff. I'm not sure why anyone would scoff at the idea that it could happen. (of course there are people who think the earth is just a few thousand years old so I guess I shouldn't be surprised).

On the other hand, the very fact that it has happened for ages and ages without human input makes me very leery of claims that, this change (if there is one happening now) is somehow man made.

So these weather patterns are man made. No way that huge tea pot just forms in nature.

Heard that on a podcast. Rather interesting.
