lexapro works by building up in your system. you quit cold turkey like that, you're lucky you don't end up with severe withdrawals and/or kill yourself. it can frick you up pretty badly.

let me guess. you also think that everyone that commits suicide is a selfish coward, right?

Wow. Would you leave her if she got cancer too?

one pill will do absolutely nothing. you start seeing the effects of lexapro after about 2 weeks.

It's not going to make her a zombie. There will likely be a period of feeling queasy or unsettled for a few days. Call the doctor if that happpens. Probably just have to start it lower dosage.

I've been on it for 8 years

Took half a pill once, upset my stomach for a week, never took one again.

While you're going about it the wrong way.. I somewhat agree with you. The point of these medications is to reduce your anxiety level enough for you to function while you fix the underlying issues that are causing you to have these anxiety problems. The problem that people have when they quit them cold turkey is all of their anxiety comes back and they haven't fixed the underlying issue thats causing it and they can't handle it. That is why it is typically prescribed along with some form of psychological counseling.

It can upset the stomach because of the serotonin receptors there.

Sounds like you could benefit from some medication yourself. Assuming there's something for extreme judgmental ignorance.

My personal problem at the time actually was a crazy SO. So you probably don't want my advice.

I've heard from people that liked it and didn't. Everyone is different. You should look at withdrawal effects as well in case she ever wants to get off. Some of those meds can have bad withdrawals

Do you even know how drugs like Lexapro work? Do you have even an Internet-level knowledge how how these drugs modulate mood? Everything you've written so far just belies your complete ignorance in the matter.

I don't know if it's because of the anxiety, a by-product, or just a skill I have, but I'm really good at seeing patterns. It helps a ton with my current job of auditing, and I've picked up on plenty of issues because of it.
I don't know how to explain it, but when things don't fit, it drives me insane, and I feel the need to understand why the pattern is broken.
So has your work suffered because you can no longer see the patterns?

Made my father more depressed and anxious, while causing him to want cigarettes for the first time in 10 years. Apparently he was in the 6% of users in which it magnifies the symptoms it's intended to remedy.
I also had this reaction. Was not a good experience. I stopped taking it and started taking a combo of Wellbutrin and Trazadone.

Good chance lexipro will kill your sex drive. Maybe not for everyone but its a known side effect. Also after about 6 months and you decide to stop taking it, you have to ween yourself off. Cold turkey is not recommended.

Definitely helped when I was on it but I think lexapro combined with weekly therapy is what really helped me get to where I'm at now. I no longer do either and feel great. I still get a bout of anxiety every once and while but I've learned how to handle it better so it doesn't spiral out of control like before.
Also, definitely wean when it comes time to stop. Those brain zings you read about are no joke.

Lexapro was terrible for me. caused insomnia, severe night sweats and erectile dysfunction. frick lexapro

I agree, therapy was the thing that really helped me. I no longer take anything, though a mild anxiety med would probably be helpful.
