This thread has been extremely damaging to my faith in humanity. I understand that idiots have always been around, and that it's just in recent years that I have noticed them as much because they now have access to technology and all the outlets for their opinions, but God help me, I don't want to live in a world like this.

Definitely not, although I am sure we are the most vile purveyors.
There are many posts on TumblrInAction from Euro countries where, believe it or not, it is running even more rampant.
