What was his salary during his playing days? Honestly I don't understand why more players aren't taking the money, playing a couple of seasons and getting out. The money it too high. You will see more of this.

The money isn't that high until you're on your second contract. Borland probably brought home less than half a mil for his career, good money for a year but not transforming your life.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I mean, if you're reasonably bright at all, once you've played a couple of seasons in the NFL, you can have yourself totally set up. Especially if you are an early round pick.

I mean, the last guy picked in round 1 last year got a $3.3M signing bonus as well as making about $1.1M for the year. Even if he lost 60% between taxes and his agent, that'$1.9M left. If he played another season, he's deep into $2M

I mean really, if you walked up to the average American and told him, "I'll give you $2M right now and you can go live a fairly relaxed life OR, you can do a job that could result in serious and lifelong injury at any point(to include tomorrow) but you could make many millions more........I think most average people take the $2M and run.

Hell, if the last guy just finished out his contract, he'd have gone over $10M which means well over $4M in 4 years in his pocket.

Yep. We may see more of this from guys who know they have the brains to live just fine with that kind of start.
