Cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, ketchup (jk)
the first two are just as lolworthy as ketchup
I don't 'dip' them in anything per se, but i'll make beurre blanc sauce to go along with them.

A bit of brown butter, parsley fried in the brown butter and a bit of lemon juice is also good.

On a toothpick wrapped in bacon. I don't know what kind

What kind of what? Bacon or gum gouger?
Best way to eat them. Rarely do I order them in a restaurant.

You asked her if they were sea or bay.

I make an herb-butter sauce with shallots, parsley, butter, garlic, white wine, etc.

That's very much like the article I posted. It's a good one for someone cooking scallops for the first time.

I pretty much make a similar sauce (sometimes tweak things.. like capers or whatever) for all seafood dishes.
I did swordfish the other night and did the same kind of sauce with all of the brown bits that were in the pot from searing the large swordfish steak, and it was so rich and a nice brown color.

No and hell no
Presuming the cook knew what he was doing why would someone even consider dipping a scallop in a sauce? Ketchup? Hell no.

The OP was asking a question which is one of the great things about this forum. She got recommendations and went with a butter, lemon, garlic sauce with what she had on hand and which she enjoyed. She learned something new.

Agree.
But if they were bacon wrapped, you don't need a sauce. Unless someone created a bacon sauce...
