"Final Fantasy XV isn't afraid to innovate to find greatness" & More Previews

PAX East was this past weekend and there have been a ton of new previews of the demo that's launching next week. The demo has received pretty universal praise with only complaints some jaggies and occasional frame drops. Lots of good info out there and I did think Gamespot's video breaking down the combat was pretty helpful.

I came away from my first experience with Final Fantasy XV feeling hopeful. Square Enix has given us something tangible, finally, and it’s looking promising. I may have entered that room not knowing what was coming, but I left with a solid idea of what to expect in future. Combat is nothing like we’ve seen in the franchise before but, thanks in part to a magnificent open world just brimming with curiosities begging to be uncovered, it doesn’t matter. It just feels like Final Fantasy through and through. Unfortunately, Square Enix may have inadvertently shot itself in the foot; while the studio was undoubtedly hoping this teaser would tide us over until the full release, it’s done the exact opposite. So get cracking, Square. After all, I’m not getting any younger.

I may not have loved every second of Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae, but I walked away with a desire to keep playing. I want to get better at combat, which is unusual for the series but oh-so enticing at the same time. I want to find out why the characters in Noctis' crew are so loyal to him, and see if, at all, how their relationships evolve. For all of questions Episode Duscae raises, it's a great opportunity to experience a taste of what's to come in the full game. I don't know when we'll get chance to see Final Fantasy XV proper in all its glory, but I know that I'm more excited for it than ever before. Once everyone has a chance to sink their teeth into Episode Duscae, I bet I won't be the only one.

I just read all that and watched the Behemoth boss battle and March 17 cant come fast enough.
I played one hour of the Type-0 psp game on an emulator just to see what it was about (dat opening scene, holy shite) and March 17th is going to feel like a late christmas for me, a long time FF fan since SNES-days.
15 looks AMAZING, I feel it's going to follow in the footsteps of VII and reignite the FF series as a whole.
Out of the 13 chronicles, looks like the main numbered title was the worst. Type-0 and VersusXIII (now 15) look to be where they were headed. More mature content, action-style battle system. I liked 13 unlike most but it was just walking down a hall and fighting to the next cutscene.

Cant wait to see how they incorporate magic/Summons(aren't implemented in the demo)
Im thinking itll work like KHs system with shortcuts
Phantom Sword is very similar to a drive form from kh2 so they're at least taking influnece.
I'm also interested in the mythos regarding the gods and "the kingdom of the dead".

Also, new trailer for Type 0 from PAX. Game is pretty dark.
So. Much. Blood. + Final Fantasy.

Xenoblade looks great. Whenever I beat Majora's Mask I think I'm going to play P4G.
Type 0 is interesting. I want to see how it come out. It's a former PSP game right? I wish it was coming to vita. I always worry about a handheld game coming to console because they tend to be played differently.

Correct. It's a re-done PSP game. While I wish it was on Vita too, they did a nice job touching it up for consoles. A lot more than a simple upped resolution. LINK

I know it looks good. I'm referring to gameplay. As you know some games translate really well to handhelds with the play style or pacing. Some of those don't do well when put on console. I don't know enough about this to know. I'm not surprised it's not on vita thought because I'm not sure square knows that exists.

the type 0, x-2, xiii-2, mmorpg stuff has me confused
is this just a classic single player FF game?

XIII had 3 games in development at the onset.
XIII main title (single player)
versus XIII (single player, evolved into XV, single player)
Agito (rebranded Type-0), released for PSP in Japan in 2011, it had multiplayer elements on PSP, but in the HD remaster version coming out next week, is totally single player.
Then SE lost focus and did the 2 XIII sequels both pretty much sucked
XIII-2 (SP)
XIII-3 (SP)
Then in 2013 they releaesed XIV (MMORPG) then last year they scrapped it, ended the world, and rebuilt the game from scratch as FFXIV: Another Realm Reborn and it's still a MMORPG (and fantastic)
Somewhere around 2-3 years ago what was supposed to be the sister game of XIII, called versus XIII was supposed to be set in XIII's world and be an actionRPG like Kingdom Hearts and have a darker take than the main XIII game.
It kept getting delayed and gained vaporware status.
Then the next-gen consoles came out and sqaureenix rebranded it as XV and kept the overall play and art-style from it but changed the universe/story to be a main game of its own.
Type-0 HD comes out March 17 and the first run has a 3-hour XV demo which is highly anticipated bc most people thought the game would never see the light of day. It's basically been in development for 10 years.
tl;dr
XV is single player
Type-0 is single player
XIV:ARR is MMORPG

Speaking of Square, did you guys see the survey they put out for players to tell them what they want?
Posted on 3/9/15 at 4:47 pm to Mr Gardoki
I just saw it, I bet it's going to be overwhelmingly for a VII Remake.
go tell sqaure to remake VII
