I have several and they all work well. I ran my thumb through the waffle blade awhile back. It was to the bone and looked like a tic, tac, toe board. That took a month to heal and didn't feel very good.

I have an old French one that was a couple hundred dollars but I have a $14.00 KitchenAid that works just as well and has the guard-which I wasn't using.
