His best season in 1984 was 5084 yards on 564 attempts, completion rate on 64.2 %, yards per completion was 14.0

Transfer that to 2014 when 11 teams had over 600 attempts passing, 2 teams over 650. It could be realistic that Marino would have 650 attempts in a modern offense. Assuming the same completion rate, and yards per completion, he would have had 5893 yards in his best season.

It would have been very hard to hit 6000, but he could have had the most yards in a season. The record owned by Manning is 393 more yards than Marino's 1984 season but Manning had 90 more attempts.

Add in that he would also throw to WR's that would be way more open due to stricter coverage rules AND wouldn't be hit nearly as much or hard due to QB protection rules.
