because you care.
because you know that i know you care.
because a heaping helping of abuse from internet strangers is healthy.
because FDboard.
*******
Ok, so we have purchased most of the appliances and after ice-pocalpyse have finally been able to return to the house.
for washer & dryer, i went old-school and found this GORGEOUS rock solid almond-colored maytag set in mint condition for $100 on craiglist from a sweet little old OCD man.
LOVE THEM SO FAR!! F*U*C*K* front loaders and frick the government water rationing. these suckers are built like a tank and the mid 80s was the last time Maytage put out a w/d ranked #1.
BONUS is the retro turquoise-blue agitator! Freaking love that

On to the kitchen. If you remember, before we had this hideous non-vented hood about 16 inches above the glass cooktop.
The cabinets had to go, decided to go with a 36" HOOD over the 30" range because its not much more than the 30" and I think it will capture the grease & smoke better..and if we do ever put in a larger cooktop we'll be better prepared.
Here's the hood we settled on; we are going with a stainless backsplash and the next 2 decisions are pretty important:
Now I have to get someone who knows what they're doing to cut the corian countertops. I am also having to wait for the contractor to run the gas line underneath. Here's the range that is going in (30")
1. do we get rid of the soffit?? Its going to be painted all white, but does it look too dated?
2. the new hood is 18" and will fit perfectly against the soffit (vented to the roof) and will be about 29-30" above the cooktop.
3. what type of tile work do you think would be good here? white subway tile and the little skinny rectangles with glass seems a little too trendy. we are going with a very mid century theme overall and i don't want an ugly backsplash to spoil the look.
4. we are leaning towards the restaurant-style stainless 'bar' shelves but would solid stainless look better or perhaps wood?
5. pool table is going here so when you're facing the other direction in the kitchen, this is the view.

Should take out the wall behind your stove and just have that as a seated counter top

I hope you invest in paint because the wall colors look like the Eater Bunny threw up in there.

there is already a large island in the kitchen (see below) and the other side of the sink is also a bar so that would probably be a bit excessive

they're hideous.
we are redoing everything white.
the previous rennovation did a sloppy job on the ceiling and there are seams everywhere so we're going to put drywall tape and spackle and just clean it up with a consistent paint color throughout the entire house.
we're priming and repainting the rest of the cabinets as well. still debating what color...possibly a slight variation of white that will offset them from the rest of the walls.
that yellow and green tho

Is the room connected to your kitchen your den/family room?

Does the checkmark in the upper left hand corner signify "double or triple wide"?

game room. that fireplace is two-way and the other side is the den where the tv is going.
this side is going to be a pool table & possibly an arcade machine.

and for the record, double-wide. everyone knows triple-wide is trashy

You're welcome.
And FWIW - PJ loves his triple wide.

I'd probably do the opposite with the pool table on the other side. My kitchen is large, but not open to any rooms. The way it's shaped and because of the big island (not a cooking island) in the middle, there's no place to put a couch. There's roomy seating for 6-7 on one side of the island with the other side being small and large drawers. I wish it opened to a den, so I could see the stove top when I'm cooking things that need watching. That would fit more with my habits. Your mileage must vary.

gris, here's the other side of that fireplace aka den
i wish i had a pic of what the wife has already done with this room..its killer.
it also has a pocket bar to one side with an old school kenmore stove/freezer and 'playboy' rose gold mirrored back

nope. we've had the pool table and arcade machines at my parents for a billion years.
i love shooting pool and have missed having room for a table since i left home.

I grew up with a pool table in my house and used it all the time. It was great bonding time for my dad and I.

here's the formal den as seen from the kitchen.
That 'middle' area we already have a retro dining table and chairs for breakfast.
NOTE - thats not our pool table. we're making this a formal sitting room with NO tv because the views are spectacular.
