Don't post here much, but thought y'all would appreciate this. Catch of a lifetime either ruined him for life or hooked him for life.

Nice catch

That awesome, I was hooked at one time . Can you imagine catching anything weighing 1000 lbs on a rod and reel ? So many things can go wrong .

The fight lasted 30 minutes. A200 lb tuna on standup is more challenging than a 1000 lb marlin on a 12/0 in a fighting chair

Congrats on the catch. My question is why the hell did they kill the fish? That fish is no where near a world record. I've seen marlin at docks before, but that was either for a big money tournament or the fish died during the fight. That fish was still kicking when they sunk the gaff on him.

It may have still been kicking, but I think it was basically dead already.

Hopefully I'm not wrong. Regardless, it's a hell of a fish. Congrats to the kid.

A grander is typically viewed as being ok to kill regardless of there being money on it or not. Pretty good chance it would die from the fight anyway due to fatigue.

I laugh at people who look down at people who take billfish

You don't get mad at wahoo killed so why a billfish?

Plenty to go around and it's just the accepted thing nowadays to release them. But know damn well I kill every marlin I catch. Too much perfect meat to waste. And I love those bills hanging on my wall.

And I think it's stupid that people have to defend killing a fish

With a lie like the fish was ready dead or was so tired no way it would have survived. Such a lie. I guarantee if they would have tried to revive that fish it would have happily swam away. But bc of the t&r crowd they feel they have to lie to justify killing it

I tell people straight up I eat the fish and love the bills. You got a problem with that?

Funny. Yes marlin are edible. I don't look down at people that take fish for a tournament or if it wore out during the fight. That fish in the video wasn't close to dead.

But u do look down at people who take a fish to eat it?

Okay to kill to win a trophy
Not okay to kill to eat

Got it

No I look down at people that kill a marlin just to bring it in. Save me on I brought it in for the meat. Plenty better fish to eat like wahoo, mahi mahi, tuna, etc.

Got it
