I agree that we can't expect our recruiting staff to play Santa Claus and visit every kid in the country. That being said, if a kid has interest in a particular school, he will do things to attempt to garner the staff's attention, I.e. going to camps, sending in game film, Junior Dat, etc.
If a kid makes no effort to reach out to a program, it seems likely that the staff wouldn't bother to commit several hours to evaluation.

I completely agree - we need to turn over ever rock and stone. We as LSU have a ton to offer, period.
This guy is a LB and we all know where we stand now and in the coming few years - we need them.
For those that think that kids won't come east, recent history says overwise.

Is he serious about this 5* only schtick or is that tongue-in-cheek?
Posted on 2/13/15 at 8:49 am to Salmon
That's unfortunate if true.
We have a list of 3* and 4* NFL players that could wrap around the Earth and more than a few 5* "busts"
With only 30 5*s annually, how does he expect to field a full team?

Think of the money we could save on evaluating these kids

Not that I think they give a crap about stars, but I don't think the recruiting services should be underestimated or we should think no coach ever looks at them. There were 1.1 million kids who participated in football last year in America. There is no way any coach, even the best, can know all the recruits all the time. I'm sure some do look and see who is trending or look up videos on the sites.
I'm not saying they don't use it as an information source. But they don't use the services rankings and star system.
The OP wants them to go down the rankings and find every 5 star rated by a different non-coaching staff and offer without watching film or evaluating them.
That's some larry Coker shite

Not just 5 star kids, we should offer 5 star kids first before taking commitments from 3 star players.
OKAYYYYYYYYYY... we get it, you know nothing about recruiting

I'm honestly shocked that you got the joke.

I am not suggesting anything, just expressing my opinion. Even Orgeron said they should go after any recruit anywhere no matter who they have committed to.
Posted on 2/13/15 at 1:07 pm to CalTiger53
Yeah let's offer every recruit who has zero interest in us. That'll be productive.

That's great for getting the fan base excited, but in the real world, there are 10,000 high school football players entering college in any year and LSU can sign 25 of them.
It's stupid to waste time on recruits who have no interest in LSU or don't fit the scheme simply because of what Rivals has to say.

I am glad my posts bring RATsWannabes out of the hole.

quote:We can offer every kid who is OOS, but actually putting in the work to secure the kid is another thing. First, the kid has to have a level of interest for us to take the next step in the process. If a kid from the west coast comes to camp, then that would be a positive sign to continue the recruitment.

There you go, I only mentioned offering, did I say anything else? This message board is amazingly entertaining.
