Think the rust already took care of the bluing.

OP, 0000 steel wool and light oil will take care of the surface rust. If it's bad it might need media blasting and refinishing.

Any of you ever used those cold blueing products like oxphoblue? I have a few old guns that are in rough shape as well. None of them carry much monetary value or sentimental so refinishing would only add to them IMO.
