There evidently will be a nation-wide search for Hawthorne's replacement.
One can only hope he has a fraction of
Jim's enthusiasm, professionalism, and love for LSU.
I find it amazing that some people define Hawthorne's career by his 'flubs.' What they don't understand is that the man called literally THOUSANDS of football, basketball, and baseball games for over three and a half decades. Out of the tens of thousands of calls he had made, I think he is entitled to a few major flubs (Jack Hunt, etc) and probably 50 or 60 very minor ones. That's what made him human and listenable.
His great voice, consistency, spontaneity, emotion, loyalty, and sincere caring for everything LSU will be almost impossible to replace.
His predecessor, John Ferguson, had one of the best voices in the business, but his range and true emotion did not match Hawthorne's.
Best of luck Jim in all your future endeavors.
BTW, thanks for always pronouncing it "L-S-Shoe"
and not "L Essssss You" like Franques......

I don't give a shite about his "flubs", in fact I find it endearing that he's passionate and maybe gets lost in his words from time to time.
My gripe is that he makes listening to a baseball game impossible and he's absolutely insufferably negative. He's supposed to be objective and paint a picture of the game and be able to talk a little bit about the goings-on of a baseball game in the interim, none of which he does well at all.
I appreciate his dedication to LSU but it's been time for him to go.

Metry Tyger, you hit the nail on the head. Pick any big time sports broadcaster from your Mount Rushmore of broadcasters, sit him down in front of a microphone for 30+ yrs, covering all 3 major sports, almost literally not missing a game in all those yrs ( check out his consecutive game streak in all 3 sports)and see how many mistakes your guy will have made. Obviously, his age caught up with him, but for what he did for as long as he did, it's obvious it was never a job for him; rather, his love for LSU is & always be off the charts. For that, I can easily cut him some slack. As for his replacement, an interesting aspect of his retirement is that he's over the entire LSU media dept. So any replacement will have to be able to perform those duties as well unless JA decides to separate that from any broadcasting duties. Brando? no. He was fired/let go from CBS for good reason.

I don't find it "amazing" at all. Some of us are drama queens and being hypercritical is all some of us have to pass the day.
Broadcasting is a very tough gig and doing it successfully for 3 major college sports for almost 40 yrs is amazing.
Enjoy your retirement, Jim. You have earned it!!!
